Random Team Generator

Use the wheel as a random team generator: spin once for each player, or put the players on the wheel and draft them in turn. Either way the teams are fair and nobody picks favourites.

Method 1: one spin per player

The wheel starts with Team 1 to Team 4. Rename them if you like — Red, Blue, Green, Yellow — and delete the teams you do not need.

  1. Call the first player.
  2. Spin; the needle shows their team.
  3. Repeat for every player.

It is quick and dramatic, but pure chance can leave the teams uneven. Use it when the size of a team does not matter much, or switch to the draft below.

Method 2: a draft that keeps teams even

  1. Paste all player names into Entries, one per line.
  2. Turn on “Remove winner after spin” in Settings.
  3. Spin for Team 1, then Team 2, then Team 3, and so on, round after round.

Each name drawn leaves the wheel, so nobody is picked twice and the teams fill up evenly. The Results tab keeps the draft order, so you can copy it and read the teams out at the end.

Example: 12 players into 3 teams

Paste the twelve names, turn on elimination and spin twelve times. Spins 1, 4, 7 and 10 go to Team 1, spins 2, 5, 8 and 11 to Team 2, and the rest to Team 3. You get three teams of four in about a minute, and everyone saw it happen on screen.

For extra suspense, turn on Mystery so the names stay hidden until the wheel stops. On a projector, Fullscreen and the Space bar make it easy to run from the front of the room.

Where it helps

  • PE lessons and sports clubs — teams nobody can call unfair.
  • Quiz nights — split up the friends who always sit together.
  • Workshops and meetings — random breakout groups.
  • Game nights — co-op partners or opponents.

Each result is drawn by your browser’s cryptographic random generator before the spin starts, so nobody, not even the person spinning, can steer it.

FAQ

Questions

How do I make random teams with the wheel?
Keep the team names on the wheel and spin once for each player, or paste the players' names and draft them with “Remove winner after spin” turned on.
How many teams can I make?
As many as you need. The wheel starts with four teams; add or delete lines in Entries to change the number, and rename them to anything you like.
How do I keep the teams the same size?
Use the draft: put the players on the wheel and let the teams take turns. Each player drawn leaves the wheel, so the teams fill up evenly.
Can I save the teams?
Yes. The Results tab lists every spin in order; press Copy to paste the teams into a chat or a document.
